This term our teacher is Miss Daines with support from our new teaching assistant Mrs Green. Mrs Crane or Mr Samuels will teach the class one afternoon a week covering Miss Daines's planning and preparation time.
Our spring topic this year is Magnificent Mountains, Rivers and Coasts. We will discover the highest summits on earth and the greatest rivers across the continents. We will learn about how rivers form, where they go and what happens on the way, including a look at some of our local rivers. We will also learn about the formation of mountains and delve into the history of people brave enough to climb them such as Mallory and Irvine; Hillary and Norgay.
PE for the whole class is on Thursday afternoon with Mrs Crane or Friday afternoon with Mr Samuels. Please note that long hair must be tied back and earrings removed for safety reasons. There may be extra PE sessions during the week so it is important that PE kits are in school at all times.
Spellings are given out on a Friday to give a week's preparation for a spelling test. Maths homework is set at the same time and should also be completed by the following Friday. A four week project will also be set for each topic to give the children a chance to pursue and present their own interests.
This year we have the music partnership working with us again to teach music skills to the class using the flute as an example instrument. Many of the skills they learn are transferable to other instruments and children may have the chance to continue their learning beyond the year with private lessons.
