Weekly Update

17-21st January 2022

What have we been doing?

Our book of the week has been : Aliens love Smelly Jelly by  Tony Mitton

In our phonics lessons we    have been recapping all the sounds we've learnt so far.  (Parent video: How to say the sounds - YouTube).   This week we learnt the sound 'th and qu'.  We have been practising writing longer words such as 'quit'.   We watched this clip from the Lorax and paused it every time we spotted 'th'. Why not give it a go at home?

In maths we have continued to look at 1-10. We practised counting objects carefully and using a ten frame to compare the size of groups. As a challenge we have been thinking about numbers that add up to 10.

We thought about night time and day time. We  learnt about some nocturnal animals and about what type of people might work at night time. In RE we have begun our new topic ' Special People and Places' and we thought about people who are special to us.

In PSED we are thinking about our families are read ' Tango makes three' and 'My Family Book' ( links below) to help us  celebrate different family units.

How to help at home

Continue to read at home as often as possible. If your child is not confidently blending then please ensure they read their Read Write Inc book daily.

Point out numbers  and shapes in the environment. Begin to talk about about more/less/fewer. Point out and discuss the differences between two groups.

Photos and observational snapshot are on Tapestry.
