As part of the reducing food waste in school pupils learnt about where food comes from in the world and compared the amount of food each continent eats. This helped pupils understand how lucky they are with the provision of food in this country. Pupils learnt why it is important to cut down on food waste so that everyone in the world has access to food. The school weighed the amount of food waste after school dinners for several weeks and managed to significantly cut down the amount of food pupils were throwing away at the end of lunch.
Another aspect the pupils looked at was the amount of food packaging that is thrown away. The school weighed the amount of packaging thrown away after packed lunches and the pupils took part in a project to save on packaging which was also very successful.
The school put on an open afternoon for parents about the Eco projects which was led by the pupils.
